England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson has agreed a one-year extension to remain at Toulon next season, with the option of a further year beyond that.

The 30-year-old, who is currently with the England training camp in Portugal, has rediscovered both his form and fitness since moving to the south of France, and is clearly happy to continue.

A club statement confirmed the new deal, with the England World Cup winner integral to Philippe Saint-André's ongoing squad development down on the Cote d'Azur.

"I'm really happy here," the former Newcastle Falcons player told AFP. "The team is fantastic. It's really great: the players, the coaches, the people, the Mayol stadium. It's a pleasure and I hope that all will go well. I have a lot of ambition for Toulon," he added.

And Wilkinson wasn't the only Toulon player to agree a new deal, with Gabriele Lovobalavu and Christian Loamanu both signing two-year extensions.

The triple player deals cap an excellent for Toulon following their weekend qualification for the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-finals and also Wednesday night's 31-19 home win against Montpellier, which lifted them to fourth in Top 14 - pending Thursday's games. That latest bonus-point win maintained the club's hopes of a top six finish, which would guarantee both a league play-off berth and also automatic Heineken Cup qualification for next season.

Wilkinson's input has been crucial to that success so far this season, with the England fly-half currently the leading points scorer in Top 14 with 177. But he will now be absent for the duration of the RBS Six Nations, leaving Pumas captain Felipe Contepomi as a more than adequate stand-in.

That sort of depth is what Saint-André is keen to develop throughout his multinational squad, and there will clearly be no slacking off as the French and European seasons head towards their respective climaxes.

"We're still in the top six of Top 14 and we took the attacking bonus, but we lacked a bit of control and patience," said Saint-André after Wednesday's win. "We should have scored four or five tries in the first half. We try to play total rugby but we are still lacking something. Nevertheless, it is still okay," added the Toulon coach.

Wilkinson could be joined in France next season by the likes of fellow World Cup winner Lewis Moody and Ospreys pair Mike Phillips and James Hook. And today it was Glasgow and Scottish star Al Kellock's turn to be linked with a big-money move across the Channel.

The international second row is reportedly attracting the interest of French champions Perpignan, who have previously had Kellock's Scottish compatriots Nathan Hines and Chris Cusiter on their books. They are also reportedly keen on landing Hook to bolster their fly-half options.

Kellock described the rumours as "pure speculation" but refused to rule out o move to the Catalan giants. He told The Glaswegian that he was currently in talks about extending his present club contract but did admit that that "big carrots" from French and English clubs were being "waved around".
