Sonny Bill Williams has been voted Australia’s ‘Most
hated man’ by readers of Zoo Weekly, beating Bali
bomber Amrozi to top spot after his acrimonious
defection from the NRL’s Bulldogs to French Top 14
side Toulon.
Zoo editor Paul
Merrill explained that SBW had been the clear winner
after his heinous crime of daring to turn his back
on Down Under in favour of earning a few Euros over
here in France.
“Sonny Bill is
someone who did something no Australian should do,
he ditched his teammates and walked out,” said
Merrill.
“We’re calling him
Money Bill Williams for scarpering off to another
continent just for the cash.”
Hmmm. Seems a tad
rich, or poor, when you consider the tens of
thousands of Aussies currently trying to earn some
pounds over in London. But hey, everyone’s entitled
to an opinion right?
Still, at least he
was in good company on the list. Second was a
politician and third was a bloke called Wayne Carey
who earned his nomination on the grounds of
“shagging his mate’s missus” – ok, fair enough – and
“even the name Wayne” – which is a touch harsh
methinks.
Seventh on the list
was the Pope – really – for “shutting down our
streets and filling them with a bunch of weirdo's”
during World Youth Day in Sydney.
Just to emphasise the
point Merrill added: “Generally we don’t like him.
He’s old and looks a bit strange, like he should be
in Star Wars.”
Sounds like a good
read to me.
